Carmen Alto Church and Convent
In the cloister of Carmen Alto, which was given in 1661 to the austere Barefoot Carmelite Order for their use, there can be no more than 21 nuns resident. According to history, these monasteries only received the cream of the nobility.
Nowadays, you may buy honey, wine, herbs, natural products and medicines through a hatch opening onto the public room of the convent. You will be able to visit the house where Santa Mariana de Jesús lived, where the convent now stands, the secrets hidden in its walls, small squares and gardens, the cross on which she crucified herself for the salvation of the city, and the life of the Carmelites, their daily routine, beliefs and prayers.
