Parque El Ejido

El Ejido marks the boundary between the ‘new’ town and the ‘old town’ and is sown with nearly 1,500 native species of plants and trees. The park’s borders are Avenida Patria to the north, Tarqui to the south, and 6 de Diciembre and calle Guayaquil to the east and west respectively.
For visitors staying in La Mariscal district, it’s the closest open space to this quarter. On the weekends, the northern end of the park is lined with formal and informal stalls with craftspeople and artists selling their wares. It’s a great place to amble and browse the artworks, and maybe pick something up at a bargain price.
The park is the haunt of volleyball teams as well as the traditional game of ‘cocos’ which is an Andean version of boules or pétanque. It’s an interesting spectacle to watch, and many players get very competitive!
