Botanical Gardens

Ecuador is renowned as an extremely biologically-rich country. Measured by square kilometre, it’s the most biodiverse on the planet. Travellers who don’t have time to visit all of its incredible variety of ecosystems can nonetheless get a feel for its environments at the Botanical Gardens, located within the large Carolina Park in the northern part of the city.
Here, visitors are guided through wetlands, cloudforests, high-altitude moorlands and dry forest, alive with a profusion of tropical flowers such as our beautiful fuchsias and floripendulas as well as the denizen buzzing hummingbirds. The Botanical Garden also boasts two hothouses with over 500 species of orchids as well as other interesting species such as ferns and bromeliads, whose vast array of shapes, sizes and colours take your breath away.

Opening Times: 9 am to 1 pm, Tuesday to Sunday 9 am to 4:30 pm.
Address: At the northern end of Parque La Carolina, north Quito. By taxi, you can access the main gate from Avenida de los Shyris. By foot, also from Avenida Amazonas and Avenida de la República.
Entrance: $3.50 adults; $2 children and students; $1.75 over 60s; disabled free.
