Quito’s Viewpoints

A City at the Heart of the Avenue of the Volcanoes

Quito is the ideal city to be admired from on high. Nestled into the volcanoes and mountains of the Andes, the capital can be appreciated from many different points, each with its own character and qualities – truly a city at the heart of the “Avenue of the Volcanoes”. Find out more with our new guide to the city’s miradores.

From these viewpoints, or miradores in Spanish, panoramas of mountains, snow-capped volcanoes, the colonial city and modern quarters can all be appreciated at once. Its elongated shape also makes it easy to get a feel for its geography quickly.

Some viewpoints are ideal for observing the life of the Old Town from up above, while others provide vistas west and east simultaneously, while the view from the top of the cable car Telefériqo at Cruz Loma rewards the visitor with panoramic views of no less than three snow-capped peaks on clear days.

The Quito Visitors’ Bureau has so far identified nine viewpoints which allow one to observe the eclectic beauty of this intriguing capital. To complete the experience of viewing the city from on high, many of the viewpoints detailed in this section offer parking, refreshments, information points, and even, such as the case of the Cima de la Libertad, the opportunity to learn about Ecuador’s history.

We have published a handy leaflet-map to Quito’s viewpoints. You can pick up a copy at our visitor information centres , or at most hotels in the capital. You can also download a PDF version.

Discover Quito’s viewpoints and get ready to touch the sky!
