When the railroad that linked Quito to Guayaquil opened in 1908, Ecuador was changed forever. With the new traffic, goods and news could travel with incredible ease, unlike ever before.

This elevated the formerly quiet neighbourhood in which the Chimbacalle station was located, to become a booming economic hub of the capital, with factories, hotels, offices and entertainment quickly springing up.

Today Chimbacalle is remains a vibrant and regenerated community, connecting visitors and locals to various parts of the country, via unforgettable and scenic rides through the beautiful Ecuadorian cities and countryside.

The cruise-city train is a particular favourite, leaving from Quito and taking patrons across the Andes. Chimbacalle also holds many parks and areas for recreation and relaxation, in addition to a museum telling the fascinating story of the train and its impact in the early twentieth century. Needless to say, this is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon!
