La Ronda is a traditional street representing bohemian art and old Quito.  It is Quito’s oldest street and known for food, crafts,  and outdoor entertainment, especially at night.   It was here musicians played (pioneers of the pasillo), artists painted and the poets of the 1930’s mingled. One block south of Plaza Santo Domingo is the Centro Historico where you can see and play ancient games of the past like tops, yo-yos, wooden dolls, hopscotch.

This is also the places to take photos of artisans at work with silver, straw and tin at shops like Zalabartes, Humacatama techniques and Chez Tiff.  You will also find artisans creating with chocolate, honey, wood, and textiles.   You will smell quesadillas, empanadas, bread and canelazo- an alcoholic hot drink made with brandy and cinnamon that is consumed in high areas of Ecuador and neighbouring countries.   At night you will find musicians singing traditional songs to compliment your food in bars and restaurants.

In La Ronda you will also experience art like sculptures, credenzas, even saddle bags where traditional baroque and European iconography are fused with indigenous and modern art.
