Useful Information

Quito draws ever closer to becoming one of the 7 Wonder Cities of the World, as it is now one of the 14 official finalists of the New7Wonders contest.

As with all New7Wonders campaigns, the next step in this stage is the online voting process via the New7Wonders website, apps for tablets and smartphones, and text messages sent locally to 8282 with the word Quito. This is the last stage before the decision on the 7 winners, which shall be announced on December 7.

Quito is the only city to represent Ecuador. The cities that qualified to the sixth stage of the contest are: Barcelona, Beirut, Chicago, Doha, Durban, La Habana, Kuala Lumpur, La Paz, Londres, México DF, Perth, Reykjavik y Vigan.

According to Jean Paul de la Fuente, Director of Value Development for the New7Wonders Foundation, cities that win the contest experience a 20-100% growth during the 2-3 years following the vote.

The Mayor’s Office of Quito, through Quito Turismo, nominated the city and managed the voting campaign, which began in 2012 with a list of over 1,200 cities from across the globe.
