Rural and urban artisans and talented craftsmen and women will come together once again at the IV "Textures & Colors" Crafts Fair (Texturas y Colores), a program that has become the most significant and varied handicrafts showcase in the Metropolitan District of Quito. This edition will include a total of 130 artisans and will be held from December 14 to 16 at the Eugenio Espejo Convention Center. Admission will cost $1, children and seniors free.
The Municipality of Quito and the Quito Visitor’s Bureau will host and organize this event, seeking to encourage the production, improvement and marketing of products that are made by the skilled hands of artisans in Ecuador. Identity, culture and traditions combine to showcase the extreme creativity of their makers and the current needs of our ever-changing market, a sample of traditional and contemporary products that will satisfy an audience wishing to be astounded by the quality and ingenuity of the human touch.
The IV Crafts Fair "Textures & Colors" is the perfect place to access the artisans market, linking those eager to learn about the products to the new talent that is making them. This event is part of the Quito Visitor’s Bureau’s activities to contribute and improve artisan living standards, through an inclusive and dynamic activity that relates to tourism.
The public that will attend, besides appreciating the result of handicraft producers in Quito, will be able to buy products directly from the artisan, promoting the local and community markets and the individual artisans as well, significantly contributing to the recognition and appreciation of their work as a way to ensure identity and historical relevance, while increasing awareness among people about the value and condition of Quito as a World Cultural Heritage Site.
This year we will continue the exhibition by theme format adopted last year with spaces dedicated to: fashion and accessories; decoration and lighting; art and imagery; jewelry; gifts, recycled materials, and toys; musical instruments; and food and nutrition. Professionals and craft institutions will also share their experiences with us during the fair.
